The Crookston Pirate Girls Hockey team could not convert their win over EGF on Monday night into a winning streak as the Roseau Rams took them down by a score of 7-0 in Roseau on Tuesday night.
FIRST PERIOD
In the first period, the trend of the game became clear, as both teams had very few shots on goal in each period of play. This did not stop Roseau from being able to beat Madi Abrams in net, however, as Jasmine Hova scored at 4:10 to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. The defense for the Pirates began to increase in intensity, but the offense continued to be stymied by the Rams’ defense. Then, at 14:28, Hovda would add another goal, increasing their lead to 2-0. Abrams wouldn’t let another one by for the remainder of the period, but the Pirates also couldn’t get anything going, and the period ended with the Pirates continuing to trail 2-0.
SECOND PERIOD
Even though shots continued to be sparse for both sides throughout this game, Roseau was determined to make these shots count. This began at the start of the 5th minute of the period, where Amelia Kvien got herself on the board to increase the lead to -0. After that, penalties started to pop up a bit more for the Pirates, and the Rams were able to take advantage of that. At 10:03, Greta Hedlund scored on the power play to increase the lead to 4-0. The Rams then added another goal at 13:50, this time from Ella Ketring, putting them up 5-0. Though the shots on goal through two periods was only 13-11 Roseau, the Rams maintained their 5-0 advantage into the 3rd period.
THIRD PERIOD
As the third period began, the story remained the same for the Pirates, as in this period, they were only able to muster 3 shots on goal. The Rams were able to cash in twice on their 9 shots on goal; the first one came at 5:23 as Jasmine Hovda scored unassisted, completing a hat trick and breaking a Roseau points record, and after the game got into running time, Roseau added their last one of the night, as Tenley Sandsrom capped off a near flawless night for the Rams, as they cruised to a 7-0 win.
Crookston drops to 5-15 on the season and will take on Fergus Falls on Monday.
