Crookston Community Ed offering Sourdough and Beginning Crochet classes in February

The Crookston Community Education is offering classes for community members in February.  It is offering two more sourdough classes after the first one filled up.  A sourdough class will be offered on Thursday, February 5, and Wednesday, February 25.  It will also offer a Beginner’s crochet class on Monday, February 2.

“Community ed for adult enrichment has been something we’ve been looking to grow for a few years now. And here we are with some of our first classes,” said Crookston School District Community Ed Director Brandon Neibauer-Adams. We have a sourdough making class. We have a few sessions of that coming up. We have a beginner’s crochet class also scheduled. We also have a woodworking 101 class and a welding 101 class for some of our adult learners. More on that is coming up as we finish the planning for those courses.”

BEGINNING CROCHET CLASS –
The beginning crochet class will be held on February 2 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Crookston High School room D145. The class fee is $19.  You will learn the basics of crochet, chain, single, double crochet, and turns. Begin a scarf with the tools to finish. “Our instructor is Katelyn Stegman, who is one of our teachers here at the school. Katelyn is well known for her knitting and crocheting. So she will be having this beginning crochet class for learners who’ve never done crochet before,” said Neibauer-Adams. They’ll come to the class, have their yarn and hook available, learn the basic techniques, and leave with a scarf they can continue at home.”
Cost for the crochet class is $19.

SOURDOUGH CLASS-
The sourdough classes on February 5 and 25 will be held at the Crookston High School Foods Lab (Room D110) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. “Your instructor for that, Vicki Huck, is well known for her sourdough abilities. We offered the class, and it filled up within a week. And so, immediately, we thought, let’s put out more available dates for any other community members who are interested in learning how to make sourdough bread,” said Neibauer-Adams. “They’ll come to class, they’ll learn how to make it, and they’ll leave with two loaves and take home a sourdough starter.”
Cost for the Sourdough class is $49.

If anyone would like to teach a community ed class, they are always looking to add more classes. “As we continue offering things, I will also say that if there are any instructors in our community who would like to try to offer a class through community education, I invite you to email me as well,” said Neibauer-Adams. “It really is a great opportunity to grow relationships within our community and continue lifelong learning. And I really hope that the program continues to grow over time.”

To register for the classes, email Brandon Neibauer-Adams at brandonadams@isd593.org.
