Cathedral Schools Week is being celebrated across the nation this week. Students at Cathedral School in Crookston took learning beyond the classroom today, celebrating with a memorable outdoor ice-fishing experience designed to connect kids with nature and outdoor recreation.
Kindergarten through fifth-grade students participated in ice fishing with support from Get Kids Outdoors, which provided ice fishing rods and buckets for seating. Community members also generously allowed Cathedral School to use their ice houses, helping make the experience both safe and enjoyable for students.
For many students, this was their first time ice fishing. With guidance from volunteers and plenty of excitement, students learned the basics of ice fishing—and the fish were biting. Students proudly caught fish, creating moments of joy, confidence, and discovery.
Cathedral School extends sincere thanks to Get Kids Outdoors and the community members who shared their time, equipment, and ice houses to make this event possible. The ice fishing experience was a highlight of Catholic Schools Week and a reminder of the value of community partnerships and outdoor learning opportunities.
Catholic Schools Week celebrations also included opportunities to build school spirit and strengthen connections across generations. One highlight was the Senior Alumni vs. Teacher Volleyball Game, where Cathedral School welcomed back senior alumni for a friendly and energetic match. While the seniors claimed the win, the true highlight was the joy on the court as students cheered on both teams. Following the game, the seniors stayed to eat lunch with current students, fostering meaningful connections and shared memories.
Additional Catholic Schools Week activities include STREAM activities, a volleyball game against the fifth graders, a vocations prayer service, an all-school Mass, and a field trip to Widman’s Candy.Â
As part of its Catholic Schools week, Cathedral School is also sponsoring a free movie for the community, a showing of Wreck-It Ralph, on Saturday, January 31 at 11:00 AM at The Grand Theatre. All are welcome to attend!Â
