American Crystal Sugar is proud to award Get Kids Outdoors a check for $2,000 to help cover the transportation cost and fishing equipment for all kids.
The mission of Get Kids Outdoors is simple: to get kids outdoors. The organization provides outdoor recreational opportunities for youth with limited opportunities to participate. By experiencing the excitement and challenge of these activities, children gain confidence, develop a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors, and carry these meaningful learning experiences with them for decades.
Activities include a summer and a winter fishing day. Each participant receives a fishing rod and a tackle box fully stocked with tackle, allowing them to continue enjoying the activity long after the event. Get Kids Outdoors calls it the “Tools for Outdoor Adventure”.
Get Kids Outdoors support kids to a Pheasant Hunting Education Day, Summer camp scholarships, Jr Golf tournament, Snowshoeing, Ice Fishing house on the Red Lake River in Crookston for kids and their parents to use for NO CHARGE, support area school groups attending Deep Portage Learning Center in Hackensack Mn, and more.
| The funds will be used on January 31st as Get Kids Outdoors is holding their 3rd Annual Ice Fishing Day at Island Lake by Lengby, MN. 35-40 kids ages 10-15 will have the full experience from sitting on a bucket out in the cold, to a flip over house, all the way to an enclosed wheelhouse. While riding the bus to the destination, UMC Natural Resources Club students put on a “Classroom on Wheels” where kids will learn about the fish species in MN, Aquatic Invasive species, knot tying etc. These fundings will help cover the transportation cost and fishing equipment for all kids.
