Crookston Girls Basketball takes down Warroad in final regular season game

The Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team looks to end the regular season on a high as they take on the Warroad Warriors in Warroad tonight. The game starts at 7 PM, with the pregame show at 6:30 PM on KROX Radio.
Crookston is 7-18 on the season after losing 48-40 to Barnesville on Thursday.

FIRST HALF
The game started with the Warriors scoring on their first possession, and the Pirates responded with an 11-0 run, with Madi Bruggeman, Halle Nicholas, Grace Boll and Brooklyn Waldal all contributing to it. Warroad was then faced with a full-court press defense from the Pirates, and couldn’t find answers to it. After the Warriors cut the lead to 14-7, the Pirates went on another run, this time of the 9-2 variety, which was led by a Grace Boll three-pointer and four Bruggeman free throws. Bruggeman would make 7 free throws in the half, and after the run gave Crookston a 23-9 lead, both teams only scored two points in the final 2:54, giving the Pirates a 25-11 lead at the break.

SECOND HALF
In the second half, the Pirates got off to a great start, scoring the first six points of the half from the hand of Chloe Boll, who was held scoreless in the first half. The 20-point lead would hover around there for the majority of the half, with Warroad finding some offense from Attlee Larson, who hit two threes and a couple free throws. The Pirates did not let off the aggressiveness pedal, however, and that goes for both ends of the floor, as they constantly forced turnovers on defense and got to the line often on offense. This allowed them to build the lead to 25, at 49-24, and the teams began to empty the benches at this point. Crookston got bench points from both Brynna Kopecky and Morgan Boll, and they helped the Pirates win by 30, by a score of 59-29. This gives the Pirates a +50 point differential against the Warriors this year.

Crookston ends the regular season with an 8-18 record. Warroad drops to 3-23 on the year.
JV – Crookston won 49-13
