Crookston Planning Commission approves conditional use permit for a daycare

The Crookston Planning Commission met on Tuesday evening in the City Hall Council chambers and approved a conditional use permit for a home daycare.

The commission discussed the conditional use permit for a home daycare at 910 Stearns Street, owned by Cody and Tatianna Bannert, and to be run out of the house by Alexia Ingle.
Tatianna Bannert said daycare is needed in Crookston. “We just know that daycare is such a need in Crookston, so my husband and I decided that we would get a house, and my cousin was willing to run a daycare. It’s kind of an odd situation, unique, to say the least,” said Bannert. Some joking around turned serious. And here we are. The house is almost ready. Should be opening April 1st, if all goes according to plan.”
Ingle said the house will be used as a licensed family daycare for 10 children. “It’s been an exciting process to watch the house go from start to finish,” said Ingle. “I’m really excited to give this opportunity to the town and have more daycare available.”

Crookston Building Official Greg Hefta explained why a conditional use permit was needed. “It is not being used as a residential home, so that’s the reason for the conditional use permit requirement, but at the same time, the planning committee really recognized that it’s a critical need in the community, and there were not too many questions,” said Hefta. “The questions were regarding how many kids were going to be in the house and or daycare.”

The commission agreed to push it to the Crookston City Council for approval.
