The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Soccer team scored three goals in their first game of the year, but they weren’t able to get a shot on goal in a 1-0 loss to California State Monterey Bay (CSMB) in Nampa, Idaho.
UMC played solid defense in the first half, but offensively they struggled to take a shot and the lack of offense came back to bite them towards the end of the first half. With a little under three minutes left in the half, CSMB scored five seconds after a corner kick for a 1-0 lead.
The second half wasn’t much better for UMC, but they were able to take their first shot of the game but it didn’t hit the net. UMC’s defense continued to play well and the goalie, Olivia Puttin, made a total of 14 saves in the game, but it wasn’t enough as CSMB won the game 1-0.
UMC drops to 0-2 on the year and will play Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho on Monday. CSMB improves to 1-1 on the year.
