Red Lake Falls Softball takes down West Marshall in five innings

The Red Lake Falls Eagle Softball team had no problems with the West Marshall Fusion in a Friday Afternoon game at the UND Softball Complex, as they scored multiple runs in every inning en route to a 22-0 victory.

FIRST INNING-
The Eagles got off to a great start to the game, as Layna Schindler was hit by a pitch and Ella Breiland walked to put two on with nobody out. After a popout, a wild pitch scored Schindler, putting the Eagles up 1-0. Then, Kylie Klipping delivered a booming RBI double to put RLF up 2-0. After a passed ball moved Klipping up to third base, Grace Knutson reached on an error, scoring Knutson to make it 3-0 RLF. A popout and groundout would then end the inning, stranding the runner at third base.
The Fusion got a one-out walk from Haley Olson, but she was left stranded on first as Kylie Klipping got all three outs via the strikeout.

SECOND INNING-
Ava Seeger walked to start the second inning for the Eagles, and moved to second on a heads-up baserunning play before the next batter. Then, after a strikeout, Schindler came up and drove Seeger in with an RBI single, making it 4-0 Eagles. Then, with two outs, Shandi Nelson came up and reached on a throwing error, which scored Schindler to make it 5-0 Eagles. Klipping would then pop out to end the inning.
West Marshall this time would get a leadoff walk courtesy of Rachel Wimpfheimer, but Klipping proceeded to strike out the next three batters to quickly end the inning.

THIRD INNING –
In the third, the Eagles started with back-to-back doubles by Grace Knutson and Kayla Schafer, with Knutson scoring on the latter to make it 6-0 RLF. Another error would then follow, scoring Schafer to make the score 7-0. A walk and a wild pitch would load the bases for Schindler, who drove in one more with a base hit to boost the lead to 8-0. Then, following a walk, Shandi Nelson delivered a two-run single, giving the Eagles a double-digit lead at 10-0. A walk would then load the bases for Knutson, who would hit a pop-up on the infield. The ball was dropped, but the home plate umpire called the infield fly rule. This resulted in a confusing sequence where the Fusion got a double play, but the runner on third scored, ending the frame with the Eagles leading 11-0.
Grace Knutson came in to pitch the 3rd, and after a strikeout, Macey Boe walked, and Olson followed with the Fusion’s only hit of the day, getting a single to put two on. Knutson would respond by getting a flyout and a strikeout to end the inning, keeping the Fusion scoreless.

FOURTH INNING-
RLF continued their great on-base skills with a leadoff walk to start the 4th, and after a force out, Ava Seeger singled to put runners on the corners. A wild pitch then followed, scoring the lead runner to make it 12-0 Eagles. The Eagles would get one more run in the inning, on yet another RBI single from Schindler, making it 13-0 Eagles, before back-to-back strikeouts from Haley Olson ended the inning.
West Marshall was retired in order in the bottom of the 4th, caused by two strikeouts and a groundout to second base.
