West Polk Soil and Water’s Nicole Bernd visits Highland School for Arbor Day celebration

West Polk Soil and Water Conservation District Manager, Nicole Bernd, had the opportunity to visit Crookston’s Highland Elementary 1st graders on April 24, in celebration of Arbor Day.

The presentation focused on the “Mighty Oak Tree,” where students learned about how oak trees grow, the many benefits trees provide, and the different animals that rely on acorns as a food source. Each student took home an acorn planted in a “dirt cup,” ready to grow in a sunny spot.

“Thank you to the Highland Elementary 1st graders for being such great listeners and enthusiastic participants,” said Bernd.
