Northern Valley Law Enforcement Memorial service will be held May 13 in Grand Forks.

The public is invited to a memorial service honoring fallen law enforcement officers from the Northern Red River Valley. The service will be held at the Northern Valley Law Enforcement Memorial located in Optimist Park at 4601 Cherry St. The service will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13th.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week.

Local and state law enforcement officers from North Dakota and Minnesota, federal law enforcement, the US Air Force and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be participating in this event.

Participants: The keynote speaker will be Drew Wrigley (North Dakota Attorney General) with opening remarks from Polk County Sheriff James Tadman.

The ceremony will also be attended by community officials and officers from several local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The memorial service is open to the public and the community is encouraged to attend.

Ceremony Includes: A multi-agency presentation of the colors, reading of the roll call for fallen officers, a multi-agency 21 gun-salute, Flag Folding, a helicopter fly-over (availability and weather permitting) and more.

(In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Gambucci Arena).
