The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team outscored its opponents 12-2 as they swept the Thief River Falls triangular on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 win over Osakis and a 6-1 victory over Thief River Falls as the Pirates remain undefeated in Section 8A play.
CROOKSTON VS OSAKIS
The Pirates cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Osakis Silverstreaks. The Pirates swept the singles with Reggie Winjum, Grand Funk, and Gunnar Groven outscoring their opponents 36-0. At fourth singles, Ean Deleon also won in decisive fashion with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
At first doubles, Hudson Rick and Sam Widseth won the first set 6-2 and won a hard-fought second set 6-4 to win the match. The third doubles team of Jacob Halverson and Alex Zammert won easily with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The only Pirate loss came at second doubles, but it was a battle with the Pirates falling in three sets 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

CROOKSTON VS THIEF RIVER FALLS
The Pirates used a different lineup in another meeting with Thief River Falls and they won 6-1. The only Crookston loss came at first singles once again as the Prowlers have one of the top singles players in the section with Jett Cornelius and he beat Crookston’s Grant Funk 6-1, 6-1. The Pirates won the rest of the matches, but they had to work for the victory. At second singles, Sam Widseth won a battle with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. At third singles, Gunnar Groven won hard-fought first set with a 7-6 victory (7-4 in the tie-breaker), and then pulled away in the second set to win 6-1.
Crookston’s Ean Deleon had no problems at fourth singles and he coasted to a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
At first doubles, Reggie Winjum and Hudson Rick won the first set 6-3 and then pulled away for a 6-1 victory in the second set to win the match.
The second doubles duo of Sawyer Anderson and Colton Osborn won their first set 6-1 and won a much closer second set 6-4.
At third doubles, Jacob Halverson and Alex Zammert won a competitive match 6-2, 6-4 and the Pirates won 6-1.
Crookston improves to 12-1 on the year and will take on Thief River Falls again on Tuesday.
