The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team beat the Thief River Falls Prowlers 6-1 in a Section 8A match played in Thief River Falls on Tuesday afternoon.
CROOKSTON VS THIEF RIVER FALLS
Crookston picked up another 6-1 victory over the Thief River Falls Prowlers while sweeping the doubles and winning three of the four singles matches. Crookston picked up a big win at first singles as Grant Funk beat Jett Cornelius in an exciting, hard-fought match with a 6-4 win in the first set. In the second set, he won by the same score to get a big win.
At second singles, Grant’s cousin, Kaleb Funk, got Thief River Falls’ only victory with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
Third singles was a good battle as Crookston’s Gunnar Groven won an outstanding first set with a 7-6 victory with an 8-6 tie-breaker. In the second set, Gunnar pulled away for a 6-2 victory.
Ean Deleon continued his masterclass at fourth singles as he shut out his opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Crookston swept the doubles matches with Reggie Winjum and Hudson Rick dominating their match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
The Pirate second doubles duo of Sawyer Anderson and Colton Osborn had little trouble in a 6-3, 6-1 victory, and third doubles of Jacob Halvorson and Alex Zammert cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory to complete the 6-1 victory.
Crookston wraps up the regular season with a 13-1 record and will have the Section 8A team tournament first round on Monday, May 18.
