Crookston Softball falls to East Grand Forks

The Crookston Pirate Softball team scored 10 runs, but it wasn’t enough as the East Grand Forks Green Wave held on for a 16-10 victory in a Section 8AA matchup played at Donny Lauf Field in Crookston.

FIRST INNING-
After the Pirates retired the first batter, the next batter reached on a Pirate error and scored on a groundout for a 1-0 lead.
Crookston retired in a 1-2-3 fashion with a lineout and a pair of groundouts.

SECOND INNING-
East Grand Forks’ first two batters reached on errors and a run scored on a passed ball. After a walk, another run scored on a passed ball. EGF scored another run on a wild pitch and led 4-0.
The first two batters were retired before Emma Pierson reached on an error, but the next batter struck out.

THIRD INNING –
East Grand Forks had a one-out walk before the next two batters were retired.
Crookston’s Darco doubled, Wagner and Parkin singled to load the bases. Brea Lessard doubled to score two runs to get within a 4-2 deficit. Shyuh Burnette grounded out, but a run scored to bring the Pirates within a 4-3 deficit.

FOURTH INNING-
EGF answered in the bottom of the inning with two singles to score a run, a walk and another single to score a run for a 6-3 lead. After two walks, a run scored. Another run scored on a single for a 9-3 lead.

Crookston’s Peyton Demarais walked and scored on a Wagner triple to get within a 9-4 deficit. Parkin singled and the Pirates scored two more runs to get within a 9-6 deficit.

FIFTH INNING-
The Green Wave countered in the bottom of the inning after a walk, a single, and an error for an 11-6 lead. Another single scored a run, and the Wave added another run on a Pirate error for a 13-6 lead.

Crookston got a run back as Brynna Kopecky hit the ball to the fence and was able to come around to score to get the Pirates within a 13-7 deficit.

SIXTH INNING-
EGF was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

Crookston’s Parkin led off with a double and after an out, a run scored on a ground out to get within a 13-8 deficit.

SEVENTH INNING-
East Grand Forks added some insurance runs with one out after a walk, double, and sacrifice fly for a 14-8 lead. A walk and a double added two more runs for a 16-8 lead.
Crookston had a good start to the bottom of the inning with walks to Pierson and Demarais. A run scored on a double steal. Wagner doubled to score another run and the Pirates trailed 16-10 with one out. The next two batters were retired and EGF held on for a 16-10 victory.

Crookston drops to 1-11 on the season and will host.
