Red Lake Falls takes beats Sacred Heart, then Sacred Heart beat LPA in Section Softball tourney

The Red Lake Falls Eagle Softball team hit two home runs on their way to a 12-3 victory over the Sacred Heart Eagles in a Section 8A tournament game in Red Lake Falls.
Sacred Heart bounced back in a loser-out game as they scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to beat the Lake Park-Audubon Raiders 5-1 in nine innings.

FIRST INNING
Sacred Heart’s first two batters were retired before Blake Brockpahler doubled and Jensen Stinar followed with a double to the right-center field gap to score a run for a 1-0 lead.

Red Lake Falls answered in the bottom of the inning as Layna Schindler led off with a single, Shendi Nelson reached on a throwing error and Kylie Klipping reached on a fielder’s choice, where Sacred Heart got the out at home. After the second out of the inning, Ava Seeger singled to score two runs for a 2-1 lead.

SECOND INNING
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
The first two Red Lake Falls batters were retired to start the inning. Ella Breiland got a two-out rally going with a walk and Schindler singled to score a run for a 3-1 lead. Nelson singled before Kylie Klippng blasted a fly ball over the left field fence for a three-run homerun and a 6-1 lead.

THIRD INNING
The first two Sacred Heart batters struck out before Gretta Effhauser was hit by a pitch. The next batter struck out.
Red Lake Falls’ first batter grounded out before Schindler reached on an error. The next two Red Lake Falls batters were retired.

FOURTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Jensen Stinar led off with a single before the next three batters struck out.
Red Lake Falls was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout, lineout, and groundout.

FIFTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Leah Sundby singled to start the inning, and Sophia Modeen hit a bloop single into shallow centerfield. Megan Weiss grounded out to knock in a run, and another run scored on a RLF error to bring Sacred Heart within a 6-3 deficit.
Red Lake Falls answered in the bottom of the inning with a one-out Grace Knutson double. Ava Seeger singled to score a run for a 7-3 lead. Schafer doubled and runners were at second and third base when Miley Cota knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly for an 8-3 lead.

SIXTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Teagan Johnson singled with one out, and Lilly Mueller doubled, and Sacred Heart had runners at second and third base with one out. The next batter popped up a bunt down the third baseline, and RLF’s Knutson made a running catch for an out. The next batter lined out to shortstop, and Sacred Heart wasn’t able to score a run.

Red Lake Falls had another two-out rally in the bottom of the inning when Shandi Nelson hit a solo homerun over the left field fence for a 9-3lead. Klipping singled and Knutson doubled to score a run for a 10-3 lead. Ava Seeger was hit by a pitch before two runs scored on an error for a 12-3 lead.

SEVENTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Effhauser singled with one out and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. The next two batters were retired and Red Lake Falls won the game 12-3.

Red Lake Falls improves to 22-4 on the year and will play BGMR in the Section 8A semi-finals on Tuesday, May 26 at 4:00 p.m. in Red Lake Falls. Sacred Heart drops to 13-8 on the year and will play Lake Park-Audubon in a loser-out game. That story, stats, and more is further down on this page.

Sacred Heart vs LPA

FIRST INNING
Sacred Heart was reitred in 1-2-3 fashion to start the game.
LPA’s first two batters were retired before Kenna Mattson singled. The next batter was retired with a strikeout.

SECOND INNING
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout and two groundouts.

LPA’s Brooke Ihry walked but was caught stealing for the first out. The next batter walked before the next two batters struck out.

THIRD INNING
Sacred Heart’s Leah Sundby reached on an error with one out, but the next two batters were retired.
LPA was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout, and two groundouts.

FOURTH INNING
Sacred Heart was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with a strikeout, a deep fly out to the fence in center field, and a ground out.
LPA was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

FIFTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Lilly Mueller had a bunt single with two outs, before the next batter struck out.
LPA’s Ava Poegel drew a two-out walk before the next batter struck out, and the game was tied 0-0 after five innings.

SIXTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Sopha Modeen led off the inning with a bloop single into shallow center field. Megan Weiss had a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to second base. Effhauser ground out and the runner moved to third base on the play. LPA elected to intentionally walk Brockpahler before Jensen Stinar hit a slow roller up the middle for a base hit and a run scored for a 1-0 lead.

The first two LPA batters were retired before Kenna Mattson singled. The next batter was retired.

SEVENTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Mueller doubled, and Sundby walked. After an out, Weiss reached on an error to load the bases. The next batter struck out.
LPA’s Brooke Ihry crushed a fly ball over the left-center field fence for a solo homerun to tie the game at 1-1. Hanna Kale-Skersick doubled before the next two batters struck out. Livi Thomasson singled to right field, and the LPA coach held the runner at third base. The next batter struck out,
and the game was tied at 1-1, forcing extra innings.

EIGHTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Brockpahler led off with a double before the next three batters were retired.
LPA was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.

NINTH INNING
Sacred Heart’s Mueller led off the inning with a double, and Sundby singled. The next batter was retired, and Weiss hit into a fielder’s choice as Mueller was tagged out between third base and home plate for the second out. Lola Rohrich pinch hit and knocked in a run as she hit a ground ball up the middle, and everybody was safe, and a run scored for a 2-1 lead. Brockpahler singled to score a run. Another run scored on an error before Stinar singled to score another run for a 5-1 lead.
LPA drew a one-out walk before the next batter hit into a fielder’s choice, and Sacred Heart got the out at second base. The next Raider batter struck out, and Sacred Heart won the
game 5-1.

Sacred Heart improves to 14-8 on the year and will take on Mahnomen/Waubun at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday in Red Lake Falls. LPA ends the season 15-5 on the year.
