First graders from Gina Ystenes and Erica Uttermark’s classes at Highland School recently had a hands-on nature experience with the assistance of Get Kids Outdoors during their May reading celebration.
Students had an incredible day learning in nature and exploring the outdoors. Get Kids Outdoors provided bug-catcher kits for the students, which they got to keep, and the young explorers successfully found and studied beetles, worms, centipedes, ants, and moths. The students also had monarch butterfly incubators in their classroom.
An amazing pizza lunch, along with drinks and ice cream treats from Miss Peggy, was the perfect reward for all of their hard work reading this month. Both teachers are grateful for the wonderful support and generosity from our community members, as partnerships like these truly make a lasting difference in students’ lives.
