Red Lake County Baseball cruises past West Marshall in Section 8A tournament

The Red Lake County Rebels scored at least run in each inning and pulled away for a 13-0 five inning victory over the Marshall Fusion in the second round of the Section 8A tournament, played at East Grand Forks’ Stauss Park.

FIRST INNING-
West Marshall was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with three strikeouts.
Red Lake County’s Will Gieseke hit a high pop fly to third base and the ball was dropped allowing Gieseke to reach. He stole second base and after an out, came into score on a perfectly executed hit-and-run with Colin Taggart singling to left field for a 1-0 lead.

SECOND INNING-
West Marshall’s Rylan Anderson reached on an error. After an out, Sebastian Johnson reached on an error. The next two batters were retired.
Red Lake County added another run when Cain Cardinal singled
, stole second base, and scored on a Gullingsrud single for a 2-0 lead.

THIRD INNING –
The first two West Marshall batters reached on errors before the next three batters were retired.
Red Lake County broke the game open in the third inning. Gunnar Halvorson singled and stole second base before scoring on a Kegan Schmitz single for a 3-0 lead. Riley Broden was hit by a pitch before Cain Cardinal singled to score a run. Boe Nelson followed with a single and a run scored on an error for a 5-0 lead. Gieseke doubled to knock in a run and later scored on an error. Gullingsrud walked before Taggart singled to score a run and after the inning was over the Rebels led 9-0.

FOURTH INNING-
West Marshall’s Dylan Widner reached on an error before the next three batters were retired.
Red Lake County’s Riley Broden doubled with one out and moved over to third base on a passed ball. Cain Cardinal walked and moved to second on a passed ball. Boe Nelson knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly before Gieseke singled to score a run for an 11-0 lead. Gullingsrud walked and Colin Taggart singled to score two runs for a 13-0 lead.

FIFTH INNING-
West Marshall needed to score at least four runs to keep the game going. The first two batters were retired before Blair Potucek singled for the first Fusion hit of the game. The next batter struck out and Red Lake County won the game 13-0 in five innings.

Red Lake County improves to 22-2 on the year and will play the winner of Sacred Heart and Ada-Borup-West at 3:00 PM. West Marshall drops to 11-9 on the year and will play the loser of Sacred Heart/Ada-Borup-West at 5:30 PM
