Representative Steve Gander files bid for re-election to Minnesota House District 1B

Representative Steve Gander, an optometrist serving patients in East Grand Forks and Crookston, has officially filed for reelection to the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 1B.

After earning the Republican endorsement earlier this year, Gander is now gearing up for the fall election.

“Getting to know all of you from Fosston to Felton and everywhere in between has been one of the best parts of serving this district,” Gander said. “I’m truly grateful for the trust people have placed in me, and to represent you in St. Paul is quite an honor.”

Over the past two years, Gander has worked to expose fraud, waste, and abuse in Minnesota government and in social service programs. He has consistently been outspoken about the billions of taxpayer dollars lost through fraud and mismanagement under the Walz administration.

“Under the failed leadership of Governor Tim Walz and his administration, state agencies allowed unprecedented fraud to occur, totaling as much as $9 billion,” Gander said. “That’s money hardworking Minnesotans should never have had to hand over in taxes.”

Gander also points to what he sees as irresponsible state spending during the 2023-2024 biennium, criticizing the trifecta held by Twin Cities liberals for blowing an $18 billion surplus, raising taxes by $10 billion, and leaving the state facing future budget deficits.

“We have had success over the last two years in holding the line on tax increases, while delivering a record reduction in government spending,” Gander said. “This year we have lowered car tab fees and reduced property taxes so you can keep more of the money you earn.”

Looking ahead, Gander will continue fighting for lower taxes and fees, reduced government spending, and a more responsible approach to budgeting that puts Minnesota families first.
