Polk County Public Health celebrates its 95th anniversary

Polk County Public Health is proud to celebrate its 95th anniversary in 2026. Established in September 1931 as Polk County Nursing Services, the agency began with a commitment to bringing essential nursing care to residents through disease prevention and control, school health services, and health education during a time of significant public health need.

Over the past decades, that commitment has grown alongside the communities we serve. Polk County Public Health (PCPH) has evolved into a modern local public health department dedicated to preventing illness, promoting wellness, preparing for emergencies, and supporting the health and well-being of individuals and families throughout Polk County.

“For 95 years, PCPH has had the privilege of serving our communities with compassion, integrity, and a strong commitment to promoting health and wellbeing across the lifespan.” said Public Health Director Sarah Reese. “This milestone celebrates a legacy of innovation, partnerships, service and the remarkable dedication of generations of staff who have responded to changing needs and helped build a healthier Polk County.”

As PCPH marks this momentous occasion, the agency extends its heartfelt gratitude to staff, partners, and community members who have contributed to its long-standing service. Together, we proudly honor 95 years of service, while looking forward to a healthy future for generations to come.
