Regional Healthcare professionals from across Northwest Minnesota gathered Tuesday with EMS, Law Enforcement, Behavior Health, Public Health, and other community partners to receive training for active shooter emergencies at the Crookston Inn. Carrie Bergquist, Regional Healthcare Preparedness Coordinator, explains. “We are part of a national healthcare coalition group and every year active shooter is the number one thing that people want to be trained on,” said Bergquist. “We want to meet the needs of our regional emergency preparedness partners and they are telling us what they want to be trained on and we definitely listen to that and bring whatever we need to our region.”
The training was led by Jenny Schmitz, Vice-President for All Clear Emergency Management Group out of Raleigh, NC, and Jeffrey Kolts, a former law enforcement officer and now the owner of JPK Counsulting, LLC out of Englewood, CO. Both companies specialize in emergency management services and training. Schmitz explained what attendees learned in training. “Our program covers the ALICE framework, and the run, hide, fight framework that we have tailored to a healthcare environment,” said Schmitz. “We teach the practical application of techniques in the critical few minutes between the active shooter event and when law enforcement arrives.”
