ADA-BORUP-WEST PULLS AWAY IN SECOND HALF OVER FERTILE-BELTRAMI 63-37

The Fertile-Beltrami Falcon Girls Basketball team couldn’t keep up with Ada-Borup-West’s three-point shooting as the Cougars won 63-37 at Fertile-Beltrami High School in Fertile.

FIRST HALF-
In the first half, Fertile-Beltrami got off to a quick start with an 8-0 run forced Ada-Borup-West to call their first time out just a few minutes into the game. Tori Erickson for Fertile-Beltrami had a couple of baskets down low in the post for the Falcons during their opening run. The Cougars responded with a three from Morgan Smart as they cut the lead to 8-5. Later in the half, Fertile-Beltrami’s Katrina Hitchen drained a three to make it 16-11 with the Falcons still in the lead. Ada-Borup-West took their first lead of the game a little later as Izabel Marcussen hit a three, which made it 17-16. The Cougars continued to score as they ended the first half with a 14-0 run as Smart drilled another three. Ada-Borup-West would head into the halftime break with a 25-16 lead. 

SECOND HALF-
In the second half, Madison Stueness started it with a three for Fertile-Beltrami to cut the Cougars lead down to 25-16. Later in the half, Stueness connected with another three to make it 27-22, Ada-Borup-West still in the lead. Marcussen answered with a three of her own to make it 30-22. Alex Tinjum didn’t score a point in the first half but had three key baskets in the second, including a three to give Ada-Borup-West a double-digit lead. Smart hit another three to give the Cougars a 47-30 lead. Stueness later in the half hit another three as she had 11 second-half points, but the Ada-Borup-West lead was at 50-34. Smart connected on another triple as she hit five threes and led all scorers with 21 points. Ada-Borup-West added a couple of late baskets from Brielle Englestad as the Cougars would pick up a 63-37 victory.

Fertile-Beltrami drops to 7-9 on the season and will take on Norman County East/Ulen/Hitterdal on Thursday. Ada-Borup-West improves to 10-3 on the year and will host Mahnomen/Waubun on Thursday.
