The Crookston Airport Commission met inside the City Hall Conference Room on Thursday morning.
The meeting began with the commission discussing the Crookston Airport layout plan. The commission reviewed the plan and changes and ultimately approved the layout. “Our two engineers who are working with us at the airport spoke about what it involves,” said City Administrator Corky Reynolds, “They also reviewed how it changed over time.”
The airport layout plan shows the runway and building configurations. It also reveals access points and slopes required to get into the airport. The approval of the layout plan will be recommended to the City Council during the next council meeting on Monday, October 23.
The commission also discussed the updates on T-Hangers. The airport commission has filed its paperwork for the 2024 federal grant season and has submitted an application for a taxi grant. “This is money that is given to us from the FAA,” said Reynolds, “This is to fund how airplanes taxi out to the take-off positions. You have certain lanes of travel; then you get to the runways. Taxi just means you take your plane and move up to that position.”
The final item the commission discussed was the funding updates for the new automated weather observing system (AWOS). The City of Crookston is required to place a new system that will help pilots identify their points of landing and access and take-off points.
Previously, the state of Minnesota was going to fund 75% of the AWOS project, with the City paying the last 25%. The state will now support the whole operation.
The consent agenda included the approval of minutes from the July 20, 2023 meeting.
