University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle football‘s Ali Alkhatib (Sr., LB, Rosemount) was named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week after an outstanding performance against Minot State University on Saturday.
Alkhatib recorded a sack in the end zone for a safety in the final two minutes against Minot State Saturday, helping to ensure a Golden Eagle win. The linebacker led the Golden Eagles with eight tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss, along with seven solo tackles. Alkhatib and the Minnesota Crookston defense helped limit the Beavers to just 245 yards of total offense. The Golden Eagles picked up their first win since Nov. 7, 2015 and their first road victory since Nov. 3, 2007.
Alkhatib is the first NSIC Player of the Week selection since Dre Person was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week Nov. 9, 2015.
Gabriel Watson of University of Sioux Falls was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week, while Sioux Falls punter/kicker Thomas Chapin was selected as NSIC Special Teams Player of the Week.
