The Grand Forks Emergency Management Office, Police and Fire Departments, Altru EMS and Grand Forks School District will be conducting a full-scale active shooter exercise the afternoon of Wednesday, August 7th at Grand Forks Central High School. The exercise will simulate a mass casualty event and is designed to appear as realistic as possible in order to test the abilities of first responders.
Members of the public are asked to keep in mind that an exercise is taking place and not become alarmed if you see a several police and fire vehicles, ambulances and other emergency response vehicles grouped near the school on Wednesday. Law enforcement will also be utilizing blank ammunition to simulate gunfire in the building.
The exercise is being conducted at 115 N 4th St, Grand Forks, ND 58203. It is not open to the public.
An estimated 150 people will participate in this exercise. Some will be portraying victims who are experiencing varying levels of injuries or are deceased, others will be locked down in classrooms awaiting law enforcement or moved to the reunification area. Make-up will be utilized to make their injuries appear real to make the drill as effective as possible. Again, if you are traveling in the vicinity of Grand Forks Central High School on Wednesday morning, please keep in mind that this exercise is occurring. Signs will be posted at and near the site and there will be temporary road closures in place.
