Ana Pilar Serrano – Obit

Ana Pilar Serrano, 46, of Crookston, MN, passed away Thursday evening, April 23, 2020, at the REM home she had been sharing with three other residents. Ana had been recently diagnosed with cancer and was bravely battling her illness.

Ana was born in Tunja, Columbia, South America on May 25, 1973 to Ignacio and Ruth Serrano. She was later adopted by a family in the United States and eventually came to Crookston and her new home. Ana attended the Development Achievement Center (DAC) in Crookston where she made many friends. She enjoyed looking at videos put up on Youtube, watching movies, going shopping, and especially the bright colors of native culture. Ana loved having the staff of REM color her hair and made sure that everyone saw her latest “new” color when they came in the door. She kept everyone at REM on their toes and would conspire with her peers to steal snacks from time to time. The minute anyone turned their back on her she was out the door, and as sick as Ana was becoming the week before she passed away, she took off. The Crookston Police Department knew her very well! Ana brought a light to her home like no other. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a twinkle in her eye as she played tricks on everyone. Ana could be both charming and vexing at the same time.

Ana’s family were those she lived with, and the REM and DAC staff. They all loved her dearly and will miss her greatly. May God bless the memory of Ana Pilar Serrano.

A Celebration of Life service for Ana Serrano will be held at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2020, with Trey Everett, officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Social distancing will be observed and masks are recommended.
