Another Crookston FFA team advances to state

The Crookston High School FFA Parliamentary Procedure, Conduct of Chapter Meeting, Employment Skills, Minnesota Farm Bureau Discussion Meet, and Creed Speaking teams and individual teams competed at Thief River Falls Northland College. The Conduct of Chapter Meetings and the Parliamentary Procedure teams finished first place in their categories and advance to the State Leadership Development Event Competition. 

The Conduct of Chapter Meetings Team consisted of the following members: Brady Samuelson (President), Emmagail Frantz (Vice President), Garrett Wilkens (Secretary), Molly Workman (Treasurer), Ella Capistran (Reporter), Isabella Cisneros (Sentinel), Axl Page (Student Advisor). The team scored 788 points, placing 1st in their contest for the 4th year in a row. They will advance to State. 

The Parliamentary Procedure Team consisted of the following members: Leah Johanneck (President), Ben Capistran (Vice President), Emilee Smith (Secretary), Sylvia Christensen (Treasurer), Mykayla Garcia (Reporter), Addisyn Schiller (Sentinel). This team scored 676 points, placing 1st in their contest for the 3rd year in a row. 

Competing in the Employment Skills contest was Addisyn Schiller – placing 9th. Competing in the Creed Speaking contest was Emmagail Frantz – placing 8th. Competing in the Minnesota Farm Bureau Discussion Meet was Ella Capistran and Lillianna Bridgeford. 

In the Conduct of Chapter Meeting contest, students in grades 7-9 are introduced to parliamentary procedure as they learn how to conduct efficient meetings and build their communication skills. Students partake in a chapter meeting demonstration, oral questions, and an exam. 

In the Parliamentary Procedure contest, members complete a written examination and then demonstrate their proficiency at using the correct parliamentary procedure in conducting meetings. Contestants discuss chapter events during their mock meeting. 

​In the Employment Skills contest, participants submit a resume, complete job applications, and participate in mock interviews and practicums with a panel of possible employers. 

In the Creed Speaking contest, students in grades 7th – 9th can participate by reciting the FFA Creed from memory and answering questions about its meaning and purpose. 

In the Minnesota Farm Bureau Discussion Meet, members hold a 15 minute discussion about agriculture and agricultural issues with other FFA members. 

The State FFA Leadership Development Contests will be held in St. Cloud on December 15th.
