Arthur C. Olson – Obit

Arthur C. Olson passed away on Monday. August 17, 2020 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center at Erskine, MN

Arthur Charles Olson was born March 23, 1925 at home in Tilden Township near Mentor, MN son of John T. and Ida Marie (Camp) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church at Mentor, MN. He attended school at Dugdale School thru 8th grade.

On February 27, 1945 he entered the US Army and served his country until his honorable discharge on December 3, 1946. He was proud to talk about being a courtroom guard at the Nuremberg Trials.

On June 5, 1951 Art was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Schear at Red Lake Falls, MN. The couple lived in Crookston.  They lived for one year at International Falls, MN and then returned to Mentor where they purchased a farm and have since lived. Art worked at numerous places thru the years including the State Highway Department, Railroad and Paper mill in International Falls, but for 17 years at Spring Gravel Pit along with having a few cattle. Following his retirement, he helped his cousin, Truman Johnson with farming.

 

Art is survived by his daughters Sharon (Larry of Erskine, MN) Hanson of McIntosh MN and Janis Galland of Mentor, MN; grandchildren Tim Rhode of Mentor, MN, Jill (Leif) Kolstoe of Oklee, MN, Amy Broden of Red Lake Falls, MN and Katie (Jason Bachmeier) Galland of New Prague, MN; great-grandchildren Hailey, Riley, Gunnar Broden, Natalie Bachmeier and Ava Kolstoe. Brother-in-law Marvin “Bud” Schear and sister-in-law Ann Schear.

Art is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, parents John and Ida Olson, brother Russell, son-in-law Reggie Galland along with other brother and sister-in-laws.

Funeral service will be held 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 23, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN with Reverend Timothy Lundeen Officiating. Burial will be held at First English Cemetery at Mentor, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
