ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Caden Osborn

This week’s athlete of the week is Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball player, Caden Osborn, a 6’2 senior post player.

Caden became the ninth Pirate Boys Basketball player to reach the 1,000th point mark in a win over Thief River Falls last week.  He has now scored 1,023 points and is currently eighth in all-time career points in Pirate boys basketball history.  Caden also has 695 career rebounds, and that has him third all-time in Crookston Pirate boys basketball history.  If he is healthy, he could be the all-time career rebound leader as he trails Nick Garmen with 712 and Aaron Hollcraft with 717.

Not only has Caden had an outstanding basketball career, but he is having a tremendous senior season.  Through 20 games, Caden is averaging 18 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals per game.  He is shooting a team-high 65% on two-pointers (138 of 213), and he leads the team in player rating with 599.  Nobody else on the team has a rating of 212.
“Caden has been a gym rat and likes to play, and he has scored a lot the last couple of years,” said Crookston Boys Basketball Coach Greg Garmen. “He is a humble young man and has been a great leader for us.”

Caden is a three-sport athlete and plays football in the fall.  He is an offensive and defensive lineman for the Pirates and usually plays in the guard spot.  He played varsity football for three years.  He is also a member of the Pirate Track and Field team in the spring and is a rare and unique combination of thrower/two-mile runner.  He participates in the shot put and discus and also runs the two-mile run!

Osborn is also a member of the Leo Club, he plays the Viola in the orchestra and he is a member of the honor roll.
