Cassie Solheim has been named our Athlete of the Week. Solheim is a Junior on the Pirates Girls Soccer team and has been Crookston’s leading scorer netting 5 goals in the first six matches. Solheim has also scored multiple goals twice in matches this year.
What might be the most impressive part of Solheim’s game, however, is her ability to play multiple positions. “Cassie really can play any position on the field and that has been very clear this year,” said Crookston Pirates Girls Soccer Coach Sarah Reese. “She has played goalkeeper for us which not a lot of people can say. She’s been a great midfielder for us, really the only position we don’t put her at is defense because that doesn’t suit her skillset, but if we wanted to, she could do it.”
Solheim began playing Soccer in 7th grade and took to it right away and has since continued to improve her skills. “I would say Cassie has some natural Soccer ability, and every single day she comes to practice or to play she is constantly working on getting better,” said Coach Reese. “Whether it’s working on having tighter turns, working on her individual skills, or passing to her teammates, I very much appreciate the effort she gives and her commitment to succeed.”
Even though Solheim is the Pirates leading scorer and is known for that aspect of her game, according to her coach she is also very easy to play with. “She is very team-minded,” said Coach Reese. “We know she can shoot the ball, but you may not see based on the stats that she is constantly distributing the ball and getting others involved as well. And she’s been able to do that in a lot of different ways.”
Although it may be Soccer season, Solheim is a four-sport athlete playing Hockey, Softball, and Track. What is evident, is regardless of the sport, Solheim usually has a big role in the team’s success and is a gifted athlete.
