Athlete of the Week – Emma Borowicz (January 23, 2019)

The KROX Radio Athlete of the Week is Crookston Pirate’s Girls’ Basketball player, Emma Borowicz, a 5’8 sophomore guard.
Emma is shooting the ball extremely well the past week and that has helped her free up some space on drives to the basket.  She scored 21 points, had 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals at Park Rapids on Tuesday and she scored 22 at Ada-Borup on Friday.  Emma loves to drive to the basket and adding the consistent three-point shooting makes her a dangerous offensive player.  Emma is averaging 15 points per game this season and has a balanced stat sheet with 3 steals, 3 rebounds and two assists per game.   Emma is also a solid defender and always gives it 100 percent on the floor.  Her success isn’t a coincidence after countless hours shooting and working on her game year-round.  “Emma has been an important piece of our team for the past three years. She has steadily improved, and with her dedication to the game, I only expect her to get better and better,” said Pirate Girls Basketball Coach Darin Zimmerman. “Emma is a competitor and is driven to do well. As much as she can fill up the stat sheet, she is a team player, plays unselfishly, and will do whatever it takes to help the team be successful.”
Emma has played varsity basketball since eighth grade and is averaging around 13 points per game over her young career.  She has 259 rebounds, 158 steals, and 155 assists.
Emma is a three-sport athlete and has played varsity tennis since eighth grade and advanced to the state individual doubles tournament with Catherine Tiedemann this fall.  Emma was just shy of 30 wins on the tennis court earlier this year. She has also competed on the varsity track team since seventh grade and competes in the 400, 4×400, 800, 200 and the pole vault.
She is also a member of the LEO Club, student council, band and honor roll.
