ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Jasmin Hanson

The KROX Radio/Draft’s Sports Bar and Grill athlete of the week is Crookston Pirate Softball junior captain, Jasmin Hanson.
Jasmin has had a great softball season and is second on the team in batting average and was the pitcher for the first Pirate win this season against the Northern Freeze, going all eight innings.  Jasmin has been playing on the varsity squad since she was an eighth grader and primarily plays centerfield and pitches for the Pirates.  This year Jasmin is hitting .309 and has 17 hits in 55 at-bats with three doubles and one home run.  She has scored 10 runs and nine rbi’s.  She has been solid on the defensive end, leading the team with a fielding percentage of .967 with only one error on the year.  In the circle, she has pitched 51.1 innings and was the pitcher for the first win of the season in an eight-inning game against the Northern Freeze. She has more strikeouts than walks and she has pitched over half the innings for the Pirates this season.  “
Jasmin contributes to our team in many different ways.  First and foremost, she is a great leader and teammate, and always stays positive and picks her teammates up no matter the situation.  She leads by example through her hard work and dedication, and she loves the game of softball,” said Pirate Softball Coach Robbe Nessler.  “Her contributions to the team this year and in years past have been irreplaceable – she leads our team in innings pitched and can always be trusted to throw strikes consistently.  Further, she has played very solid defense out in center field when not pitching and is a leader in numerous offensive categories (2nd in BA, 3rd in OBP, first in extra-base hits and RBI).  She is the third hitter in our lineup because she consistently has productive at-bats, and when she makes solid contact she hits for power.  She has done all of this throughout the season despite battling some lingering injury issues since day one.  The bottom line is that Jasmin is extremely important to our team not only because of her production and consistency in the circle, in the field, and at the plate, but also because she is a great kid and a great teammate!”
Jasmin is a two-sport athlete and plays volleyball where she is a middle hitter.  She was a boys basketball manager this past winter.
Besides being busy with the three sports, she plays the drums in band, a member of the LEO Club, honor roll, youth group and a softball coach in the summer.
