Mike Skaug, a Polk County soybean farmer, was elected by his fellow directors to become the vice president of the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association (MSGA). Skaug will serve under MSGA President and Wheaton farmer Jamie Beyer.
“It’s an honor to be nominated and elected by my peers to become vice president,” Skaug said. “Coming off all the wins we had this session for Minnesota farmers, I think we’re all excited to build on that momentum and continue to advocate for policy that helps agriculture.”
Skaug testified in front of the House Agriculture Committee earlier this year to promote the benefits of the proposed Soy Innovation Campus at the University of Minnesota Crookston. The legislature eventually approved $5 million in funding for the facility. Skaug also attended a bill signing ceremony in June alongside Gov. Tim Walz and leaders from Minnesota’s agriculture industry.
Skaug, who previously served as MSGA treasurer, farms in Beltrami with his son, Ryan. The Skaugs rotate spring wheat, corn and soybeans on the family farm.
Mark Brown (St. James) was named MSGA treasurer and Darin Johnson (Wells) assumed the role of secretary. MSGA’s board also reelected Vesta farmer George Goblish to the American Soybean Association Board.
