BOROWICZ SCORES 23 POINTS TO LEAD PIRATE GIRLS BASKETBALL OVER PARK RAPIDS

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Basketball team has another Section 8AA game tonight as they host the Park Rapids Panthers at the Crookston High School gymnasium.  The game started at 7:30 p.m.

FIRST HALF – 
Park Rapids came out strong at the start of the game, and Julia Harmon made a basket before Tori Weaver buried a three-pointer for a 5-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.  Crookston’s Chloe Boll got the Pirates on the board with a basket in the paint, and Abby Borowicz scored to bring the Pirates within a 5-4 deficit three minutes into the game.  The teams were tied at 8-8 when Borowicz scored four points in a row.  Park Rapids played outstanding defense and gave Crookston a lot of fits on the offensive side, except for Pirate senior Borowicz.  She scored 13 of the team’s first 16 points, and they trailed 19-16 with 5:40 left in the half.  Halle Winjum scored the game’s first points to bring the Pirates within a 19-18 deficit. The teams exchanged baskets in the finals three minutes, and Naomi Johnson had an offensive rebound and putback, and Park Rapids took a 21-20 lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
The second half was a wild one as Crookston’s Salentine scored the first basket to give the Pirates their first game lead at 22-21.  The teams exchanged baskets, and Park Rapids took a 26-24 lead. Crookston went on a 9-0 run over the next nine minutes with five points from Winjum and four points from Borowicz for a 33-26 lead six minutes into the half.  Crookston continued to play well and had a 38-31 lead when Park Rapids went on an 11-0 run to take a 42-38 lead with six minutes remaining.   Crookston stopped the run with an Isabelle Smith three-pointer, and after a Park Rapids three-pointer, the Pirates ended the final four minutes of the game on an 11-2 run to win 52-47.

Crookston improves to 7-4 overall and 6-2 in Section 8AA play and will host Rock Ridge on Friday night and Hermantown on Saturday afternoon.
