Polk County Sheriff K-9 Rex has passed away

With sad news, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is informing the public that K-9 Rex has passed away today (2/8/2026).  K-9 Rex recently became very ill and was diagnosed with Lyme disease and was in kidney failure.  To relieve K-9 Rex from suffering, the decision was made to put Rex down. Crookston Mathcounts team wins chapter competition, earns trip to state competition

The Mathcounts chapter competition was held on Friday, February 6, in Thief River Falls. The Competition Series has four levels of competition—school, chapter, state, and national. Each level of competition consists of four rounds—Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown Round.  The Mathcounts competition is for kids in grades 6 through 8.   Crookston’s scoring team finished first place

Vote in the MnDOT Name a Snowplow contest

Voting on a new list of finalists begins today in the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s latest Name a Snowplow contest. The top eight vote-getters will become new MnDOT snowplow names, one new name for each MnDOT district. See the list of finalists and vote now at mndot.gov/nameasnowplow. Voting will remain open through noon on Friday, Feb. 13.

Crookston High School Prom committee to host a baked potato bar fundraiser February 9

The Crookston High School Prom committee will host a baked potato bar and all the fixings fundraiser on Monday, February 9, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Crookston High School Commons.
