Charles Ludwig Zammert, 86, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2023, at River View Hospital in Crookston. He was born on January 29, 1937, in the middle of a snow storm on the farm to his loving parents, Henry and Susie (Diedrich) Zammert. 
Growing up, Charles attended Euclid School from grades 1-8 before transitioning to the North West School of Agriculture, from which he graduated on March 30, 1955. Shortly before Christmas in 1959, Charles was drafted to the US Army and reported for duty in January of 1960, he trained at Fort Ord in California before being stationed at the Schofield Barrack in Oahu, Hawaii. During this time Charles served as a SP4, lineman, and driver until his discharge on March 20, 1962.
On October 20, 1962, Charles was united in marriage to Dolores Weiland at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Euclid, MN. The two not only shared 61 happy years together but also welcomed six children into the world. Charles loved being a father and every moment he spent with the kids, such as when he would pile them into his old “Hunting Mobile” to chase down deer. It was these hunting adventures that earned Charles the nickname “One Shot, One Kill”.
Charles spent most of his life in Euclid, where he and Dolores raised their children, and where Charles worked on the farm with his brother, Robert. In addition to farming, Charles lent his time and skills to a variety of other businesses. In the winter, he worked for American Crystal Sugar Company in East Grand Forks and Crookston, drove the bus for Euclid Grade School, and also worked for Nordic Fiberglass of Warren and Arctic Cat of Thief River Falls. Charles was a dedicated hard worker wherever he was at, but his true joy and passion was in farming.
Outside of work, Charles was quiet by nature but a jokester nonetheless. He would hide your keys or move things around the house, to site just a few of his tricks. He loved to play with his kids, and grandkids. Family was the most important aspect to Charles’ life, as well as his dedication to his community. He was a proud member of the American Legion’s Honor Guard, he served as the Chairman Supervisor of Belgium Township for 20+ years, and was an usher at church.
Aside from his family, Charles had a love for many things in life such as reading, playing solitaire, word searches and jigsaw puzzles, deer and gopher hunting. He also loved the time he’d spend with Dolores on Sunday’s, when the two would play cards. After 61 years of card games, Dolores can count on one hand the amount of times she won. When the two weren’t playing cards, you could find them traveling the country to different army bases to visit the grandkids. After retiring, Charles and Dolores moved to Crookston, where Charles spent the remainder of his life surrounded by friends and community. Charles will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Grandchildren: Nick, Tashina, Mallory, Michelle and Evan Cuno, Jayden and Riley Zammert, Monica (Phil Laston) and Joshua Zammert, Nyssa and Josette Lemay, Alex Zammert. Sister-in-law, Carole Zammert, of Grand Forks, ND; Brother, Raymond Zammert of Crookston, and Sister, Kathleen Miller of Coos bay, OR; Brother and sister-in-laws’: Rita Weiland, Henry Weiland, Rovella Weiland, all of Crookston, Edward (Michel) Weiland, Jeanette Kliner, Jeanne and Sylvester Novak .
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Susie Zammert; Brother, Robert; Nephews, Bryan and Robert John; Sister, Rosemary; Brother-in-law’s, Dick Bongeon; Parents-in-laws’, Greg and Hellen Weiland; John and Greg Weiland, Doris, Charlotte and Joseph Weiland.
The Funeral Mass celebrating Charles’s life will be on Saturday, October, 21, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Euclid. There will be a one-hour visitation prior to the service.
