The Crookston Housing and Economic Development Authority (CHEDA) Board met Tuesday morning at the Valley Technology Park.
OAK COURT APARTMENTS
The board received a housing report from Theresa Tahran, and they have a 97 percent occupancy rate at Oak Court. They are currently pulling from the waitlist to fill the vacant units.
They have a few items remaining on the Smoke Detector Project and roofers have completed the roof with a few items remaining.
SECTION 8 HOUSING
They have 129 vouchers, which is down this month. They have six project-based vouchers and they are also administering three emergency voucher port-ins from Bemidji. Two vouchers currently looking for housing.
PRAIRIE SKYLINE FOUNDATION REQUEST
Kay Hegge of the Prairie Skyline Foundation is requesting a $44,000 line of credit from CHEDA to help her apply for a $300,000 grant to repair the old Cathedral Church Steeples. The money would be given to Hegge only if she gets the grant. “She is basically asking for a line of credit for $44,000 if she gets the grant, and then we would be the fiscal agent,” said Tahran. “We did a similar thing back in 2019. It worked very well. We had a voucher thing that she would submit the bill, we would sign off on it, and she would sign off. Once we get to the $44,000, she would receive the grant funds and would reimburse us back for that.”
CHEDA will only help if Hegge is able to secure the grant funding. “Once she gets the grant, we will, probably at the next board meeting, we will do a resolution to be the actual fiscal agent,” said Tahran. “This grant project that she is doing is to redo the steeples with metal shingles and remove asbestos.”
