CROOKSTON HIGH SCHOOL 3-ACT PLAY TO PERFORM SCARLET LETTER

The Crookston High School three-act play The Scarlet Letter” will be performed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at the Crookston High School auditorium. Tickets can be purchased at the door each night.  Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students.

The students start the venture with tryouts in late February and are ready to show off their talent this weekend. They had a dress rehearsal on Tuesday night, and KROX watched the play and talked to the Director. “They are at the point where they are pretty close to being ready for an audience,” said Director Beth Carlson. “I always feel like we are at the point where we need an audience, and maybe one more day we will be ready.”

The play isn’t the easiest play, but the cast makes it look easy. “It is.  Much of the language is from the original book by Nathanial Hawthorne.  It is much like Shakespeare, and that is why it is so difficult because if you don’t memorize it word for word, you not only mess yourself up, but you mess up the person getting the cue,” said Carlson. “I am impressed by the way they have embraced this.  When I first introduced this, they knew the movie with Emma Stone called the Easy A, and I went okay.  I was gratified with how well they have embraced it.”

The play, including intermission, is about 90 minutes and is a fast-moving play and the cast, crew, and directors hope to see you this weekend. “We would love to see you come and support our drama department and kids,” said Carlson. “It moves along and is never boring, and I think kids even down to fifth grade would appreciate it.  I would encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the play.”

Carlson gave a tip to the KROX listeners by saying the best place to view the play in the auditorium is at the center or to the left of the auditorium as you look at the stage.
