Severe thunderstorms and strong winds moved through Crookston late Friday and early Saturday and caused damage throughout town. Several trees fell onto power lines. At least four power lines were knocked down by trees. A power line was down over several blocks along North Main Street by Great Plains Natural Gas and the Park and Rec shop. Firefighters were blocking off the street until Otter Tail Power crews were able to repair the line. Power was out to most of Crookston because of the downed power lines.
City of Crookston crews worked through the night responding to storm damage across Crookston. Public Works staff focused on maintaining lift stations and clearing large trees and brush from city streets. Crews will continue efforts throughout the day today (Saturday) and return on Monday to begin removing brush from boulevard areas. Larger trees will be cut down to a manageable size and removed as the cleanup continues into next week.
Reminder to Residents:
If you are placing storm-related branches or trees at the curb for pickup, they must be cut into 4-foot sections to ensure safe and efficient removal by City staff.
