CITY OF CROOKSTON CREWS WORKING TO PATCH WINTER POTHOLES

Winters in one word are hard.  They are hard because they are long, cold, dreary. They are hard because the sun seems to rarely shine.  But they are also hard on our roads and our water systems.

Each year there are dozens, maybe even hundreds of potholes that form in Crookston and city crews are hard at work fixing those and preparing to make repairs to the water systems throughout town now that the hot mix is being prepared in Grand Forks said Public Works Director Pat Kelly. “They just started mixing hot mix in Grand Forks. At this time of year that’s where we’re able to obtain it.  We’ve had a crew out the last few days trying to get the worst potholes we’re aware of right now.  Our water division has been recompacting a number of trenches from water main breaks and service leaks.  We’ll be moving onto that shortly also and getting that prepped.  Hopefully getting the streets back in shape here.”

Potholes aren’t fun for anybody and can cause severe damage to vehicles so Kelly said the city always anticipates receiving calls each spring about where the potholes are located.  “We’ve had some complaints and people have called us so we’ve noted a couple of spots and then we’ve concentrated on some areas we know that pothole a lot like Radisson Road by Dairy Queen,” said Kelly.  “Some of the busier traffic areas, we did Sahlstrom Drive up by the Walmart area.  Some of those busier areas we’ll get to first that we know of that seem to be right in the wheel alignments so people hit all the time and aggravate them.  The process generally starts to the north and works south.”

Hopefully, a smoother ride is in your future as crews continue to move through town filling in what winter took out.
