CITY OF CROOKSTON MITIGATION STRATEGIES FOR THE CORONAVIRUS

The City of Crookston issued a release on Sunday urging residents of Crookston to follow mitigation strategies laid out by the Minnesota Department of Health.  Among those are postponing or moving events that may be located in venues that don’t allow for social distancing of six feet per person.  Interim City Administrator Angel Weasner said the city would consider moving some meetings to larger venues such as the Park Board meeting from the conference room to the council chambers.  “That is possible,” said Weasner.  “We need to determine how many participants and attendees will be at each meeting and possibly relocate at that time.”

The next City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 23.  Weasner said the city would be assessing the situation and said if the meeting is attended primarily by only council members and staff, as many are, there should be adequate room to conduct the meetings. “I will be assessing the situation as we get closer to the date,” said Weasner.  “I’m unsure of how many people will be attending the next meeting.  If it’s primarily staff and council we could spread out throughout the council chambers and should be able to have enough space for everybody.  At this time, we have to maintain the continuity of our government and responding to our citizen’s needs. We are assessing the situation and in contact with Polk County Public Health through all of this.”

Weasner also added that following the mitigation guideline importance will be discussed separately with city staff as leaders of the community. “We are strongly encouraging our staff to make sure they follow the guidelines also,” said Weasner.  “As leaders in the community, we need to make sure that they’re following the guidelines as much as possible. “

The City of Crookston is encouraging all businesses in the City of Crookston to follow the strategies in the attachment from the State of Minnesota Department of Health.  The City Administration is working closely with the City’s Emergency Manager and Polk County Public Health.  The City is also participating in following many of the listed strategies.
