The City of Crookston is still undergoing a few final steps from some of the construction projects over the summer. Some of the State Aid and local roads still have some paving and minor work before completion.
City of Crookston Public Works Director Brandon Carlson provided an update on the State aid road projects. “RJ Zavoral & Sons have the contract for the larger state aid roads, and they’ve begun paving on some of them earlier this week,” said Carlson. “Sounds like they hope to have the paving done by the end of the week, and then they’ll have some dirt work to do, so we’re getting close to completion.”
Two local roads Carlson noted that are still under construction are Grant Street and Stephens Drive. He was also able to provide an update on these projects and the remaining timeline for them. “Davidson Construction has the local projects, and they have all the cement work done for those,” said Carlson. Right now, it sounds like they’re planning on paving Stephens Drive and Grant Street on Friday next week, weather permitting. So, the hope is to have these wrapped up and back fully open by the end of the month.”
Like the local roads, drivers can expect the State aid roads of North Front Street, Fourth Avenue North, Elm Street, and Riverside Avenue to be complete sometime by the end of September or shortly after. Watering and Sod work may still take place into the middle of October, but the roadways will be back in operation. The bridge near the Crookston Fire Department has also been milled and resurfaced and fully complete and open for travel. Portions of the sidewalk were also repaired by Zavoral & Sons during the project.
Carlson talked about how it’s been a good year for construction and that he is happy with the work Zavoral & Sons and Davidson Construction have done for the city. “It’s been a good year for contractors,” said Carlson. “Davidson Construction had some staffing issues due to COVID-19, and some of their workers had to take the required time off. So that’s why some of those jobs have dragged on a little bit. Zavoral & Sons are looking like they’re going to hit their substantial completion date, and all in all, the work has been good.”
