CITY OF CROOKSTON TO MOVE FORWARD ON 2 STREET PROJECTS

The Crookston City Council met earlier this week in the City Hall council chambers and approved moving forward on two of the eight 2023 street projects.

ALEXANDER STREET AND HOUSTON AVENUE RENOVATIONS
The Crookston City Council rejected the 2023 Street Project bids due to the bid coming back 40% higher than the council anticipated. The council decided to go forward with two projects on the 2023 list. The projects are Houston Avenue and Alexander Street. “For the Alexander Street Project, we want to reconstruct that street. Last year it was dug up, and it remains with gravel, so we want to get it surfaced smooth. That’s our end goal for that Street,” said Crookston City Administrator Corky Reynolds. “For Houston Ave, we want to lay the water main underneath the street at this time, and we have the materials to do that.”

REDEVELOPMENT GRANT
The city council gave approval for the City of Crookston and CHEDA to apply for the Redevelopment Grant through the State of Minnesota. This grant goes up to $1,000,000 dollars to infrastructure and other city projects. “This is a big grant that the EDA wishes to get for the city so that buildings within downtown or city limits could be renovated with grant funds,” said Reynolds. “The Council addressed that issue and gave its approval for our EDA director to make an application to see if we could get grants of redevelopment from the state.”

MISCELLANEOUS
The resolution to approve city bills and disbursements are estimated at $526,498.075.
