CLARICE KAREEN AUSTINSON – Obit

Clarice Kareen Austinson, 85, Ada, MN, came to rest with her Lord on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Benedictine Care Community in Ada. 

Clarice was born on March 14, 1936 to Edwin and Mildred (Holm) Mathison in Bagley, MN. She graduated from Bagley High School in 1954. Clarice went to nursing school at Lutheran Deaconess Hospital and Augsburg College in Minneapolis, graduating in 1957.

On August 31, 1957 Clarice married Lowell Austinson at Rice Church, in rural Bagley. They made their home in rural Ada and Clarice worked at the Ada Hospital for 15 months. Lowell and Clarice had four sons, she stayed home for 10 years to raise her boys. They moved to Ulen, MN in 1968. Clarice went back to nursing in 1969. She became Director of Nursing at Ulen Viking Manor. She continued her nursing career at Lutheran Memorial Homes in Twin Valley, MN. In 1987 Lowell and Clarice returned to Ada with a family business. In 1990 she returned to nursing at Halstad Lutheran Memorial and retired in 2008. In her retirement years she fulfilled her time leading Bible studies and had much church involvement at SonRise Evangelical Free Church in Ada. Clarice wrote a daily devotional blog that was followed by many. She also enjoyed crocheting gifts for loved ones. She lived her life to serve the Lord Jesus.

Clarice is survived by her four sons, Brent (Piper), Ada, MN, Craig (Kathy), New Ulm, MN, John (Lisa), Ulen, MN, and Paul (Tonya), Bainbridge, GA; seventeen grandchildren, Meghan (Shane), Branden, Chelsey (Caleb), Patrick (Joy), Jason, Courtney (Peter), Kristen (Jeremy), Gretchen, Marisa, Ciara (Elijah), Stennes (Kendi), Andrew, Josiah (Grace), Anders, Michael Branch, Journey, and Abram; thirteen great grandchildren, Avery, Canaan, Amaris, Annika, Jericho, Jackson, Oliver, Silas, Micah, Haakon, Avril, Sadie, and Easton; and brothers, Oral (Judy), and Earl (Gayle) Mathison.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lowell; parents, Edwin and Mildred; and one niece and nephew.
Funeral: 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at SonRise Evangelical Free Church, 300 West Main Street, Ada, MN.

Visitation: Friday, August 27, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the church with a 7:00 PM time of sharing and also one hour before the funeral on Saturday at the church.
Interment: Petri Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Ada, MN.
