The Climax-Fisher Knights Girl’s basketball team traveled to Ada on Thursday night to battle the Ada-Borup/West Cougars. The Knights started the game strong, but eventually, the Cougars would take control and roll their way to a 72-43 victory. “It seemed like every shot the Ada threw up went in,” said Knights Head Coach Adrianna Rooney. “We can build off of a few things and while the loss isn’t what we wanted, we can continue to work and strive to be better.”
FIRST HALF –
The Knights came out and got the first four points of the game thanks to Halle Reitmeier and Trinity Erickson. From there the teams traded baskets until the Knights found themselves in front 11-9 with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The Cougars would then go on a 19-3 run over the next seven minutes to take a commanding 28-16 lead. “We gave them a lot of points in that stretch, and you can’t do that against a good team,” said Knights Head Coach Adrianna Rooney. “A lot of our first or second passes were stolen tonight, and we have to do a better job of moving the basketball offensively.” They would slowly continue to build their lead in the first half until a Trinity Erickson free throw, and Lucy Paulsrud basket made it 38-25 Ada-Borup/West at the halftime break. The Cougars were led in the first half by Dyllan Miller with 18 points. The Knights were led by Trinity Erickson with 9 points, along with Halle Reitmeier and Ella Paulsrud with 6 points each.
SECOND HALF –
The second half started exactly how the Knights drew it up, they went on a 9-4 run to pull the game within single digits at 42-34. The run was highlighted with 7 points from Ava Larson. “You gotta give the girls a lot of credit for continuing to work hard and not giving up,” said Knights Head Coach Adrianna Rooney. “They continued to work hard and that will pay off for us later this year and in close games moving forward.” The Cougars responded immediately with a 7-0 run to bump the lead back to 15 at 49-34, and never looked back the rest of the game. They continued to build the lead and would end up coming away with a 72-43 victory. “For us, we just have to be cleaner with some of our passes and make sure we don’t give teams easy points,” said Knights Head Coach Adrianna Rooney. “The first half was pretty good, but the second half needs to be better, and it will come with time.”
Climax-Fisher falls to 3-11 on the season with the loss. Ada-Borup/West improves to 6-4 with the win.
