The Polk County Highway Department would like to inform all residents that it is the county policy that mailboxes are not replaced if hit by snow. The Polk County Highway Department strongly encourages the purchase and install of a swing away mailbox. Cost is $75.00 or $150.00 if installed, plastic mailboxes are strongly discouraged.
Because of the recent heavy snowfall, the Polk County Highway Department is asking all residents who have a swing away mailbox to please make sure the chain is loose and unwrapped. If the chain is wrapped up and tight the swing away support will not operate correctly and the snow that is being plowed could damage your mailbox.
