There will be a retirement reception for Courtney Pulkrabek on Monday, November 25 from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the Courtney Pulkrabek State Farm office at 210 North Broadway. Pulkrabek is retiring after 50 years as a State Farm agent in Crookston. His last day will be Wednesday, November 27.
Pulkrabek said when he started in Crookston he had zero policies but was armed with a rate book and applications. “I was recruited by State Farm to become an agent in 1969,” said Pulkrabek. “My wife Mary and I moved here, and I started on December 1st with no policies. But I had a rate book and applications, and I went out and worked. I worked hard and hard enough work makes you lucky. I got lucky and built a nice portfolio of customers.”
Pulkrabek said the staff has been very important to him. “I can’t say enough for the staff,” said Pulkrabek. “Sandy Perkins has been with me for 30-plus years. Jennifer (Larson) has over 15 years (experience), six years or more with me. Their interaction with the customers is beyond belief. They know the customers and vice versa.”
Pulkrabek also said he’s going to miss interacting with people. “I’m here before 8:00 a.m. just about every morning,” said Pulkrabek. “I’m going to miss the people. I’m going to miss interactions. And this job allows me to have personal time, but I won’t have a problem with that because I’ll have a lot of personal time.”
Pulkrabek said that he and his wife have traveled often throughout their lives, and plan to continue taking trips including to visit their three children and seven grandchildren in San Francisco, Phoenix and Minneapolis. “My wife and I are going to go to Arizona for the cold winter months,” said Pulkrabek. “We’re going to travel around, my wife has some historical spots in mind on the east coast we both want to see. Of course, everyone wants to see their children. We’re going to take an opportunity to drop in on them. We haven’t got everything figured out, but it will all come that’s for sure. We’ve traveled a lot in our life, and we want to travel a lot more.”
State Farm Agent Ryan Kill, a graduate of the University of Minnesota Crookston, based in Fargo will oversee the office until a new agent is hired for Crookston.
