Craig J. Theede – Obit

Craig J. Theede, 34, died Friday, April 30 in a car accident while returning home to Grand Forks, ND from work at his chiropractic practice in Crookston, MN. Craig was born in La Craig J. Theede Crosse, WI to Denny and Lonna (Pladson) Theede. He grew up in La Crescent, MN where he developed many life-long friendships and rich memories, including as an avid athlete. He often reflected fondly on his time playing for the La Crescent football team and reaching the rank of Eagle Scout, like his brother, cousins, and uncles before him.

In 2010, Craig married the love of his life, Kate Gettler, after they met on the day Craig graduated from high school.  Since that day, they have rarely spent more than a couple of days apart from one another.  Some of their favorite memories included taking trips to see family, enjoying lake life, and simply spending time laughing and relaxing with one another.

Craig attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth, followed by Northwestern Health Sciences University to achieve his career goal of earning his Doctor of Chiropractic.  Ultimately, he and Kate owned and operated Aspen Chiropractic in Crookston since 2011 where his patients trusted in Dr. Craig’s individualized approach to health care. He cared deeply for the health and well-being of all of his patients.

Craig was an incredible husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, chiropractor, and human being.  Craig approached life with an unmatched zest for whatever he was doing, whether it was playing with his son and nephews and nieces, hunting, fishing or golfing with family, helping a friend with a project, or simply spending time with those he loved.  He simply radiated enthusiasm with an absolutely infectious smile, and he had an extraordinary ability to make those around him feel special.

He is survived by his wife, Kate, their 3-year-old son Miller, their baby Eva due to be born in July, and their ‘majestic’ dog, Blue.  He is also survived by his parents, Denny and Lonna Theede; siblings Shelby (Ryan), Paul (Beth), and Kiley (Behrang); maternal grandmother, Earlyce Pladson; mother-in-law, Julie Gettler (Craig), siblings-in-law Lee (Laura) Gettler and Kristin (Ben) Brunner; nephews and nieces Cole, Bryn, Logan, and Laine Ellwein, Avery, Madelyn, and Andrew Theede, Nima, Pari, and Emre Khavanin, Leif and Rowan Gettler.

Craig is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jim and Melaine Theede; his maternal grandfather, Lloyd Pladson, and his father-in-law Rand Gettler.

A private memorial service will be held Thursday, May 6 and a public memorial reception will be held from 3:00-5:00 pm at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd Street, Grand Forks, ND.

Please consider writing down a favorite memory or story of Craig and bringing it to the public memorial reception.  These memories will be compiled into a keepsake for the whole family.
