CROOKSTON AND AREA SCHEDULES FOR MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAMS

Memorial Day is the day Americans set aside to honor those brave men and women who met tragic ends during times of war.

We must use this day to honor their sacrifices, pray for their families, and bow our heads to recognize their service. We must never forget. You have seen their faces, heard their names, and maybe even heard their voices – those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during all wars and conflicts.

This Memorial Day, the Crookston Veterans Council, which includes the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, DAV and DAV Auxiliary, VFW Post, and VFW Auxiliary members, would like to invite Crookston area residents to join us in the remembrance of our nation’s fallen heroes.

The Council invites you to pause on Monday, May 30, to remember those who have fought for our freedoms.

This year, the Veteran’s Council will be doing a ceremony at Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston at 10:00 a.m., along with the flag-raising at the entrance following the ceremony. At 11:00 a.m., we will be doing the Naval Ceremony at the Sampson Street Bridge. “In Remembrance” to honor our veterans and their families, the Veterans Council will be placing a Memorial flag and flowers at the Villa, Hafslo, Gentilly, and Memorial Walkway.

The Sand Hill Lutheran Church will have a Memorial Day Program on Monday, May 30 at 10:30 a.m. in Rural Climax, with Retired Navy Officer Pastor Bruce Berg speaking with the Nielsville Honor Guard. A lunch will follow the ceremony. All are welcome to attend.

The Red Lake Falls American Legion Memorial Program will be at Riverside Park beginning at 11:00 a.m. There will be a special presentation for area Veterans of the Korean War. In the event of bad weather, the program will be held at the American Legion Club.

The Fisher American Legion will present military honors at the Greenwood Cemetery at 10:30 a.m., the Fisher Lutheran Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., and the Bygland Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. A luncheon will be served by the Fisher American Legion Auxiliary from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Fisher American Legion, 318 Thompson Ave. Fisher. All are welcome to attend.

Any Covid restrictions that remain in place will be followed.

The flag flies over Landslide Park in Crookston.
