CROOKSTON AREA CHAMBER HOLDS FIRST SESSION OF LEADERSHIP CROOKSTON 2022

Session number one of the Leadership Crookston 2022 class was held on Wednesday, August 10. Leadership Crookston is a program of the Crookston Area Chamber of Commerce. The program exposes students to a wide range of businesses and organizations in the Crookston area to show them how the pieces fit together to make Crookston a strong community. Leaders from these businesses and organizations talk about their organizations and leadership experiences. The class is also an excellent opportunity for students to build larger networks in the community that they can use in the future. The goal is to help students become stronger leaders for their organizations and community.

The first session focused on Health and Wellness. The class met with leaders from Altru Clinic Crookston and RiverView Health to learn about those organizations. They also received tours of both facilities to learn more about the local capabilities of the two organizations. The second half of the morning was spent canoeing or kayaking down the Red Lake River. The trip was a team-building exercise and a chance for students to experience a local wellness opportunity. Oliver’s Canoe Outfitters and the University of Minnesota Crookston provided canoes, kayaks, and life jackets for the trip. The Chamber would like to thank Altru, RiverView Health, Oliver’s Canoe, and the University of Minnesota Crookston for being part of Leadership Crookston.

Leadership Crookston 2022 will consist of nine sessions spread over 16 weeks. Each session will be four hours long. The sessions will each have a different focus. The next session, on August 24, will focus on the Culture and History of Crookston. Future sessions will focus on Public Service, Education, Agriculture, Media & Government, Public Safety, Manufacturing, and Small Business. Students will be meeting business and community leaders in all of these sectors and also hear from speakers on leadership. At the end of the program, students should have a greater awareness of what is happening in Crookston and a stronger network that they can use in both a professional and personal capacity.

Please contact Executive Director Mark Landa for more information on Leadership Crookston. There are still a few openings for this year’s program. Mark can be reached at 218-281-4320 or mlanda@visitcrookston.com.
