The Crookston Blue Line Club youth hockey report for this week is below –
MITE WHITE
The Mite White had a couple of very close games on Saturday in the EGF Jamboree. Even though we lost to TRF White 6-3 and Warroad Red 9-7 we played some very good games. As a team, these were the two best team games we have played all year. The boys did well rotating and playing positions so we didn’t have too many players in one spot. Colin Trudeau had a couple of good games for us and made some really nice saves to give us a chance. We had 6 of our 10 skaters score goals again this week, this just shows how well we are doing as a team with spreading out and passing the puck.
Players of the week for the White are Rowan Benoit and Jacob Biermaier. These two led the team with 3 goals apiece this weekend, and they both made some nice passes when they didn’t have a shot on net. These two have really started to play positions well and are starting to read the game. It has been a lot of fun this year watching these two work hard and become students of the game. Keep up the hard work boys and make sure you put in the time this summer as well.
MITE BLUE
Last weekend the Mite Blue played in the East Grand Forks Jamboree. Saturday we played Roseau white and Warroad Blue. First, we played Roseau white and Hunter Brownsell was in the net. Hunter did a great job in the net and because of the close score, every save seemed like a great save. We played a very tight game and even had the lead for part of the first period. We did a great job of moving the puck up ice and getting to the net but Roseau had a great goaltender and we had to fine tune our shots to get them to go in. The final score Roseau 7 – Crookston 6 with Noah Chandler(2), Davin Janek, Braxton Miller, Caden Perry, and Brayden Wahl scoring.
The Second game we played Warroad Blue. In the net for this game was Brayden Wahl. Brayden played goaltender like a natural and made many impressive saves. The game was a great game to watch it was a very competitive and physical game. Many times we were doing a great job of moving our feet and getting our heads up and we scored most of our goals skating hard to the net and getting a good shot off. We also had many great passes out to the front of the net to open teammates and were able to capitalize a few times with that. The final score was a Tie. Scoring for Crookston was Rowan Benoit(3), Braxton Miller, and Caden Perry(2).
This weeks player of the week is Hunter Brownsell. Hunter finally got his chance to play goalie and did a good job. When Hunter skated out used his great hockey sense and played his position well. Congratulations Hunter!
8U
The 8U team played in the EGF Mite/8U Jamboree last Saturday. Their first game was against Warroad and the Pirates dominated 24-6. Their next game was at the Civic Center against Grand Forks 8U. This was the first time our girls have had the opportunity to play GF this season. Our 8U girls played a great game and demolished GF with a score of 23-3. The older girls worked very hard at passing the puck around to give the younger girls a chance to score. Peyton Billing scored her very first goal of the season in the game against GF. Shyuh Burnette was in the net for both games and she did awesome. The Pirates were scheduled to play again on Sunday but due to the bad weather, they canceled the game. Next weekend the team plays in TRF, which will bring their amazing season to an end.
Player of the Week: Sydney McDonald. In her 4th and final year with the 8U team, Sydney leaves as one of the teams strongest players. She is always pushing herself to be better and to strengthen her skills. She is a true athlete who hones her abilities on and off the ice all in the name of contributing to the team and the sport she loves. Whether she is pushing the puck up the ice, scoping out an opportunity to pass, or celebrating a well-placed goal (hers or her teammates), Sydney’s heart is ALL in. She puts her teammates first, strives for team growth and is always up for a challenge. It has been fun to watch Sydney grow into the player she is today, and we look forward to watching her continue to shine and display a true love for hockey. Congratulations Syd, you truly deserve the recognition!
SQUIRT A
Squirt A closed out their regular season games this weekend. Friday they traveled to MayPort winning 7-5. Saturday they headed to Devils Lake where they lost 3-5. The boys are ready for a great week of practice heading into the district tournament in Baudette this coming weekend.
Our player of the week is Brady Chandler. Great work, Brady!
SQUIRT B
Squirt B’s had 2 games this past Saturday on the road. The first stop was in Bagley- Crookston losing 1-7 with Hudson Rick scoring Crookston’s only goal. Our second game was in Bemidji- Crookston losing 7-3. Scoring for Crookston were Jace Bruggeman, Hudson Rick and Camren Duncan with an assist by Hudson Rick.
Player of the week is Jackson Fritsch. Jackson worked hard this weekend, he had some good stick handling and really worked on getting the puck deep in the offensive zone. He had a positive attitude on the bench which boosted our player’s spirits when we were losing. Keep working hard, Jackson!!
10U
The 10U Girls had three games scheduled this past weekend, but due to weather, Sunday’s home game was canceled. Friday night, they traveled to Thief River Falls and took on the 10U girls in the Old Arena. After two weeks of no games, they played a back and forth game with regulation ending in a 3-3 tie. The girls lost a nail-biter of a game, in overtime, 3-4. Mya Bower was in net for the Pirate girls for her 2nd game of the season, and she had 8 saves in the game. Scoring for Crookston were Emma LaPlante (2) and Claire McDonald (1).
Saturday, they traveled to Detroit Lakes and won 7-1. It was a fun game, with 5 of the girls scoring goals! Logan Brekken was back in net for the Pirates, and had 11 saves, including a pretty sweet glove, save! Scoring for Crookston were Katie Seaver (2), Emmi Trostad (2), Madi Abrams (1), Aubrey Bartrum (1), and Emma LaPlante (1).
The girls will go to Thief River Falls for the 10U District Tournament this weekend, with the first game being against Warroad at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Player of the Week: Aubrey Bartrum, aka “Melvin” ~ Aubrey has grown so much this season, both on and off the ice! She has a smile on her face, works hard, and continues to improve, which has been fun to watch. Hard work and positional play netted Aubrey her first goal of the season against Detroit Lakes this past weekend. Congratulations, Aubrey! Keep up the good work!
12U
The Crookston 12U girls were off this past weekend. The girls have been working very hard at practice, preparing for this upcoming weekend’s 12UA Regional tournament. Crookston will play their first game at 6 pm on Friday evening at the Crookston Sports Center. Come out and cheer on the 12U girls, they would love to see your support!
Players of the Week are Coral Brekken, Morgan Nelson, Cassie Solheim, Reese Swanson & Brekken Tull. These girls work hard on and off the ice. Not only do they love the game, but also love being a part of a team. The high school is very lucky to be gaining these talented girls next year, they will undoubtedly have a big impact on the team. Keep up the great work!!
BANTAM
The Crookston Bantams traveled to Moorhead Friday night for one final tune-up before regions and lost a tough one 3-0. Jaren Bailey was solid in net once again turning away 45 shots.
Player of the week Nathan Kelly. Nathan has been a very important part of our team this year both on the offensive and defensive side of the puck. He’s very effective on the penalty kill and has great vision to effectively move the puck on the power play. Keep up the good work Nathan!
