The Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels went on a 20-0 run over a six-minute span in the first half and cruised to a 91-56 victory over the Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball team in a Section 8AA game played in Glyndon.
FIRST HALF –
DGF started the game on a 6-0 run with four points from Owen Leach and a basket from Ian Mickelson. Crookston scored their first points almost three minutes into the game when Jack Garmen made a basket after an offensive rebound. DGF answered with a basket before Garmen rattled home a three-pointer and a few minutes later Crookston trailed 12-9 with 12 minutes left in the half. “We started moving a little bit and moving the ball,” said Pirate Coach Greg Garmen. “We made some shots and got a few stops, which was good.” DGF blew the game open by going on a 20-0 run over a six-minute span for a 32-9 lead with 5:59 left in the half. “We were a little lethargic I felt. A little slow to react and were a little slow especially for the first 10 minutes,” said Coach Garmen. “We couldn’t get a rebound either, even with Caden (Osborn) in there.” The Rebels continued to force Pirate turnovers and get easy baskets with outstanding ball movement and cutting to the basket to take a 54-19 lead into halftime. “It was a tough half and the combination of getting into foul trouble and not moving wasn’t a good mix,” said Coach Garmen. “We couldn’t get anything going.”
SECOND HALF
Crookston started the second half with a basket from Caden Osborn and after a DGF basket, the Pirates added seven straight points with another Osborn basket, a Garmen three-pointer and an Easton Tangquist basket to get within a 58-28 deficit two minutes into the half. “We had a good start to the half,” said Coach Garmen. “Caden got us going, but it wasn’t enough.” DGF responded with a 12-4 run to take a 70-32 lead. Crookston answered with an 11-2 run sparked by back-to-back three-pointers from Garmen and the Pirates trailed 72-43 with eight minutes remaining. With the run, the Pirates held off running time until there were three minutes left in the game and DGF won the game 91-56. “It was a tough one tonight,” said Coach Garmen. “We came out a little flat tonight and never recovered. DGF has a good team and they took it to us tonight.”
Crookston drops to 4-6 on the year and will travel to play undefeated Fertile-Beltrami on Friday. DGF improves to 6-3 on the year.
